Happy Birthday!

Dear All,

Friday’s Bottom Line:

All is well in Loo, and Scott has just a few more days of ministry in the Philippines. As he heads to Phase 2 of this trip, we’ll need your help as our email updates change in some important ways. [Please get in touch with us if you need details.] We will not make daily website posts for Phase 2, but please keep praying!

Friday’s Prayer Requests:

1. God to use Saturday’s seminar in Loo to ignite a desire for disciple-making in the local pastors and church leaders.
2. Continued physical and spiritual strength for our team; for the various ministry events on Scott’s remaining few days in country to be maximally productive.
3. The Holy Spirit to go ahead of Scott [as he continues his journey and the second phase of this trip.]
Friday’s Details:

I wish I had mentioned this a few days ago, but today (Pi Day, 3/14) is Scott’s birthday! At the DM retreat this week, his friends surprised him with a birthday cake!

The happy birthday boy!

A delicious work of art
If you’d like to send Scott a message, birthday-related or not, please reply to this email and I’ll get it to him.  = )

Following their Saturday seminar and Sunday morning service in Loo, Wilson, Angelica, and Scott will travel back, through scenery like this, to the Villasis area where Scott will hold a Better Together marriage seminar and have a day of debriefing and planning…

So gorgeous!

And gorgeous-er!
Would you please take a moment today to once again pray for our folks in the Philippines? Thank you so very much!

Blessings,
Patty

It’s picture day!

Dear All,

Thursday’s Bottom Line:

God has really ministered significantly to the DM leaders at the retreat these past couple days, and Scott is SO blessed to be able to play a part in impacting them. Friday will be mainly a travel day. On their way to Loo (“LOW-oh”) for a vision-casting session with Wilson and Angelica’s disciples there, they will make a short stop for Scott to speak at a church where he’s ministered before. They will have many hours in the car, and Scott said again how thankful he is for your prayers.

Thursday’s Prayer Requests:

1. The leaders who were at the DM retreat to both hold onto (for themselves) and purposefully give away (to those in their groups) what they received at the leaders retreat.
2. Grace for Scott and his companions on their long drive Friday; his back to be fine and pain-free.
3. Wisdom from God on who will lead the DM groups formed at the Loo seminar on Saturday.
Thursday’s Details:

Today we have quite a number of pictures for your viewing pleasure. First, the grounds of the place where the DM leaders retreat was held are truly lovely and peaceful! Scott said, “Truly the Lord is in this place. It’s more than a song. Please thank the prayer partners.” (Thank you!)

How refreshing! Some of the guys got to take a dip.  = )
Concerning the impact of their retreat, Scott said, “I feel so privileged to be able to speak into the lives of these leaders. This morning I talked about the importance of “Creek Time,” or as I call it, “Shoes off time with the Lord” (see Joshua 5:13-16). The leaders are like sponges. And to see them drink in these new and challenging concepts. It is so rewarding. There are many things I spoke that were not in my notes. God is so good.”
The leaders broke into several small groups to discuss each teaching. Those discussions were the highlight of the retreat.
Scott said, “Wilson shared about how his life has been crushed or squeezed. He doesn’t have enough for his own family. His time is taken by discipling others, and he wants to quit. But he is determined to keep going. We cannot experience the power of the resurrection without first living a crucified life. It was really moving.”

“I’m so blessed to be able to fulfill God’s purpose for my life. The things happening yesterday and today will continue to bear fruit in 100 years. What a privilege to be used by God to empower these disciple-makers.”

It truly is a privilege; our enemy does not want people to become effective disciple-makers (of Jesus). Evidently, there are many cults also operating in these areas.

Cult church a block from Myrna’s place in Tombod
Scott explained, “This Mormon church is about 2 miles from Myrna’s guest house in Tombod. It was built during Covid. You can’t drive onto the compound without passing a security checkpoint. Note the guy blowing the golden trumpet where the cross normally goes.”

Mormon church
He continued, “There are many who are open to the scriptures, but are currently deceived. A perfect setting for the relational environment and scriptural immersion of the Filipino disciple-making movement.”

So well said! And such a great reason for us to pray for our friends who are on the ground in the Philippines speaking the truth in love and making a difference!

Thank you again for your partnership with us in prayer.

Blessings,
Patty

What a retreat!

Dear All,

Wednesday’s Bottom Line:

The DM leaders retreat is in progress asd I write, and it’s going really well. Pictures and a 1:18 video below.

Wednesday’s Prayer Requests:

1. God to continue to refresh, encourage, and strengthen the current Filipino DM group leaders AND our national TTC leaders, Wilson and Angelica.
2. Scott to be Spirit-led throughout his next (final) week in the Philippines.
3. Safe travel for everyone to Loo (“LOW-oh”) on Friday.Wednesday’s Details:

I have been known to try to put words in Scott’s mouth (never a good choice!), but today I will let him speak for himself about the current DM leaders retreat, which is happening now in Pugo, about a hour north of our team’s base in Villasis. He said, “Here are two pictures of the footwashing with our DM leaders at our retreat tonight. Not a dry eye in the house.”

And here’s a video of part of their footwashing. Scott said, “This was so powerful. God really helped me this afternoon and evening. Everyone has really engaged and is being transformed. After the footwashing, we served each other communion. There are 18 here, including me, and all are leading groups. We are expecting God to continue the work tomorrow morning.”Obviously, this experience has been powerful and deeply impacting for all of these very precious folks.

I’ll switch gears now and close with a couple items of humor because laughter is good too. As you know, when in the Villasis area, Scott has been staying at Myrna’s “guesthouse” in nearby Tombod, and I may have mentioned that Myrna is 88 years old. All I know about this picture is Scott’s caption on it!  = )

“Myrna getting me a glass”

And back to the retreat, Scott’s final comment to me today was, “All 18 of us are in one condo unit with 2 bedrooms. 😳”

To which I replied, “You’d better not snore tonight!”

As always, please remember that prayer is the foundation for all the wonderful ministry happening in the Philippines right now, and God is hearing and answering your prayers TODAY for our team over there. Scott and I truly appreciate you!

Blessings,
Patty

Drinking from a fire hose!

Dear All,

Tuesday’s Bottom Line:

My text “conversation” with Scott this morning was SO full of good news that I felt like I was drinking from a fire hose! The short version is that each seminar has gone really well, many people have signed up to join disciple-makers groups, the Raising Disciple-Makers book is selling like crazy, and Wilson and Angelica have made a commitment that is absolutely ASTOUNDING!

Tuesday’s Prayer Requests:

1. Rest and refreshing for Wilson, Angelica, and Scott following all their travel and ministry these past few days; Scott’s back to be strong and healthy.
2. The Holy Spirit to guide the numerous disciples who are about to lead new DM groups; for them to do so with excellence.
3. A wonderful retreat for the Filipino DM leaders who will gather in Pugo on Wednesday and Thursday.
Tuesday’s Details:

Okay, here goes!

First, a little geography refresher. Our team is based the Villasis area (yellow box), and Scott held a DM seminar in Nueva Vizcaya (to the northeast) on Monday and one in Nueva Ecija (to the southeast) on Tuesday. Each of these three places is about two hours away from the orange star where the blue roads meet. Both seminars were well-attended and resulted in many people wanting to join DM groups.  = )

Monday’s seminar was in Nueva Vizcaya
Tuesday’s was in Nueva Ecija
Now our team is back in the Villasis area, and Scott said, “We had 55 people sign up during the two seminars yesterday and today. And we are starting 9 new groups from the other three seminars we held earlier in the week (in and around Villasis). That brings the number of DM groups so far to about 15, which means there will be over 30 DM groups in the Philippines once I head out to the next country. Praise God!”

Here’s the crowd that attended the Nueva Ecija seminar.

They all want to make one disciple!

Waiting in line to sign up to join a DM group
Scott was amazed at the number of folks who signed up, “And this was after I told them that they should not sign up unless they were willing to lead their own group. We also told them that it is hard and expensive to raise children and that it would only cost them 100 Philippine pesos (USD $1.74) for the Pressing Toward the Mark (PTM) workbook… and their life in serving others.”

We also have good news about the Raising Disciple-Makers (RDM) books. In addition to the ones Scott took with him from Missouri, we are having 1000 English copies printed in the Philippines. Many individuals are now buying them at seminars, and some pastors are purchasing dozens of copies for their church leaders. We are really excited to get these concepts into the hands – and hopefully hearts – of so many people!

Scott continued, “But this is the most amazing thing: Wilson and Angelica have committed to drive 2 hours to Nueva Ecija every Thursday morning, arriving before 9 AM for their first set of DM groups. (Each of them will lead a pastors group, and someone else will lead a church leaders group.) Then they will travel from there 2 hours to Nueav Vizcaya to lead 4 more DM groups (how? I don’t know). And finally, they will drive 4 hours home.”

I asked Scott who was going to care for their children while they spend 8 hours driving and  4+ hours leading groups each Thursday. He replied, “Angelica’s sister works remote and will watch the kids every Thursday, and Wilson’s mom will act as a backup. They will do this for at least 6 months!”

Is that an amazing commitment, or what?!?

He continued, “I told them they could try to do something online if they wanted, but they chose to go and invest directly in these pastors and leaders instead.”

On Tuesday and Wednesday (1:00 AM Wednesday till 1:00 AM Thursday MO time), nearly all the folks who are currently leading DM groups will gather in Pugo (north of Villasis on the map above) for an overnight retreat of training and encouragement. Scott LOVES these opportunities to pour into people who are already doing the work, because they’ve all had experiences and challenges with their groups, and it’s an “iron sharpening iron” situation: different group leaders can share what’s working well for them, and Scott can give clarification and show honor and appreciation to all these faithful laborers. I’m sure it will be a wonderful retreat!

And finally, as far as his back is concerned, Scott said he needs to be more diligent to take his medicine ; ), and “All the hours of standing (32 hours in 7 days) has taken a toll on my body. I’m hoping to get some rest tomorrow (although I volunteered to make French toast for my housemates).”

Sometimes My Hero is like the Energizer Bunny!

Would you please take a moment today to pray for him, our wonderful team, and what’s going on in the Philippines as a result of your partnership with TTC? THANK YOU very much!

Blessings,
Patty

Great results and great beauty!

Dear All,

Monday’s Bottom Line:

God is continuing to bring amazing results from all the work Wilson and Angelica have invested into their disciples… who have made disciples… who are themselves motivating more pastors and leaders to make disciples… At Scott’s seminar in Nueva Vizcaya, 15 pastors and 30 leaders registered to join DM groups! I believe our gang has now traveled down to Nueva Ecija where they will hold another DM seminar at 9:00 AM Tuesday (8:00 PM Monday MO time).

Monday’s Prayer Requests:

1. The current disciple-makers in Nueva Vizcaya to be diligent in setting up, starting, and maintaining all the new DM groups for the 45 who have signed up.
2. Good health and stamina for Wilson and Angelica and Scott, as they wrap up this set of seminars on Tuesday. It’s been a marathon since Scott arrived one week ago!
3. God to guide Pastor Gil, Scott, Wilson, and Angelica, and other leaders as they work toward implementing a long-term partnership plan.

Monday’s Details:

It sounds like everything is going well. Scott said he’s never had so many people pressing for an autograph. 😳
Folks in Nueva Vizcaya who want to raise disciple-makers

But more important than book distribution was the powerful response to the final session of this DM seminar, where Scott used the story of Barnabas to explain the amazing power of raising one disciple.
“Lord, give me one disciple!”

Scott also met with in person with Pastor Gil, who is eager to spread the message about raising disciple-makers throughout the Philippines! In the future, our people plan to work closely with his people to make that happen.

Pastor Gil will be with Scott, Wilson, and Angelica for Tuesday’s seminar in Nueva Ecija. On the drive there from Nueva Vizcaya, they passed through this lovely valley.
“We are in a mountain valley. It is so beautiful!”

God is clearly answering your PRAYERS for our team as they travel and minister, and we are so very thankful!

Blessings,
Patty
